The land in between Florence and Siena is a region bathed in sun most of the year but still blessed with a mild climate and covered in green. We're referring of course to the Chianti region, one known throughout the world for its precious wines. In fact, it was the first wine producing area in the world to be officially proclaimed as such when Cosimo III of the Medicis defined its boundaries in 1716.
The noblemen at that time had their country houses in this area, manors perched on top of the hills which stood out against the sky.
Today, many of these old residences have become wine cellars that produce excellent wines and olive oil.
But Tuscany is not only home of the Chianti wine, it accounts for over thirty DOC and half a dozen of DOCG wines, some very important and of great quality as Brunello di Montalcino, Nobile di Montepulciano or the new Bolgheri wines. In addition to the great, well-known and appreciated reds, the local production includes a few distinguishable whites.
CHIANTI DAY TOUR
The tour travels along the main "Chiantigiana" road which starts out just a little south of Florence. The stunning landscape is typical Tuscan countryside full of green undulating hills with large plots of land covered with vineyards interspersed with orchards of olive trees and bordered by rows of cypresses. The winding road is brightened by the many poppies that grow on each side of the road all along its many twisting turns into the heart of Chianti.
During the day you'll have the opportunity to take a stroll around the small squares in the traditional country villages, where you can taste some homemade gelato or purchase a souvenir or two. Little balconies decorated with colorful geraniums look out over the little streets with children playing below.
At lunch time we will arrive in an ancient castle, which history will fascinate you. After a visit to the perfectly mantained castle, its cellars, you will enjoy a lunch with wine tasting.
After lunch we will proceed our visits and than head back to Florence along the beautiful Tuscan hills.
This tour is available once a week (from May to September) in small group by minivan with driver and every day privately.
Wine Tours to other wine areas as Montalcino or Bolgheri are available on request!
