Castello di Spaltenna is located in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region.
At 20 minute distance from Siena, less than one hour from Florence and at a few minute distance from most renowned towns of the Chianti wine region such as Radda, Panzano, Castellina, Greve and Castelnuovo Berardenga
Spaltenna is an ancient feudal hamlet consisting of the ancient parish Church with tower-bell dating back to year 1000, the adjacent fortified monastery and of a small group of country houses, marvellous example of spontaneous medieval architecture.
The castle and the church, whose first information date back to the year 1030, have the severe fortress look. The castle, rich in history and legends, is made precious inside by architrave ceilings and elegant portals.
During the middle ages, the parish church had jurisdiction on the several hamlets in its surrounding area, such as Vertine, San Donato in Perano and Montegrossi.
The Spaltenna complex, surrounded by vineyards and woods, overlooks a splendid valley in the heart of a region rich in castles and fortresses, ancient abbeys and medieval villages.
"La Terrazza", restaurant is only open for lunch proposing a “light” break in the informal inn or on the terrace overlooking two Sangiovese vine yarded hectares of the castle’s land. The cuisine and quality of raw materials are of highest level, although used for preparing “simple” and light dishes. The wine list is the same of the "Il Pievano" restaurant and features about 500 labels with a wide selection of Chianti wines, without neglecting most important Tuscan, National and International labels.
"Il Pievano" restaurant is open every night and consists of two indoor halls - Sala dei Papi and Sala degli Arazzi- and of the cloister before the parish Church of Santa Maria a Spaltenna where it is possible to enjoy a candlelit dinner in a charming atmosphere. Chef Gianluca Braglia is inspired by a cuisine linked to the territory to create and match unique dishes which change according to the season and are presented with a professional, attentive and friendly service.

The castle has 30 rooms and 8 suites, all equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV and mini-bar, offering any possible comfort and a wonderful view over the valley or the cloister. The inside is comfortable and elegant and the sophisticated atmosphere is completed with sought-after fabrics and accessories.
From the grassy terraces in front of the castle, guests can enjoy the calm of the countryside and beauty of the surrounding landscape; here are the swimming-pools: one outdoor pool, with a pleasant fall, and one indoor pool heated during coldest months.
